Questions and Responses for Solicitation # N6227120Q1162 Body Armor Panels Q1: Can the government please provide clarification on the GFE listed in Section 8.2 that states “Government will provide aluminum molds to press fabric system for the 48 panels being constructed.” Based on the requirements within the SOW to press at 5000 psi, this could present issues without additional information. Can the government provide what the tools are rated to (i.e. how much pressure, psi, etc) and if necessary, what type of press were the tools designed for?
R1: The molds provided enable the HB212 fabric to be pressed into the required shapes. This mold will be placed directly into heated press with material directly placed between the two mold pieces. The molds are a minimum of ½” thickness and machined from 6061 Al. The molds are designed to lay and be pressed by two flat surfaces.
Q2: What type of material are the ceramic spheres encapsulated in so we may determine the best type of bonding materials and process?
R2: The coating is a 10 mil. thickness polyurethane film.
