Statement of Requirements

Deterministic Artificial Intelligence for Surmounting Battle Damage CRUSER/Research Office

1.0 Background/Introduction:

The objective of the project is to develop new deterministic artificial intelligent methods for undersea vehicles to autonomously navigate, track trajectories, avoid submersed obstacles, and recover from battle damage without human intervention including zero-propellant maneuvering. These novel methods formerly demonstrated on naval fighter aircraft and spacecraft, are not yet been proven with undersea and surface unmanned vehicles. The gyroscope is required to execute experimental open water hardware validation.

2.0 Minimal Technical Requirements/Salient Characteristics:

Equipment Required: Multiple Degree of Freedom Control Moment Gyroscope

• 3 Degrees of Freedom (DoF)

• Complete software set to interface with MATLAB/SIMULINK. Other software is acceptable as long as it is self-contained.

• Real-time SIMULINK capability or equivalent if using alternative software (e.g. Quanser’s use of LabView)

• Sensors yielding knowledge of gimbal angles, gimbal angle rates, spinning-rotor position and rates, and gyroscope torque output

• User-written control laws and gimbal steering laws

• Compatible with MATLAB/SIMULINK, or if alternative software, it would only be acceptable if the entire experimental apparatus is self-contained (no additional software required), and must provide the real-time interface equivalent (i.e. SIMULINK equivalent). Equipment software must allow for the download of data in a common format such as excel, or .dat files)

• Standard US Power (110V AC 60 Hz wall socket) requirement

• Complete operational hardware setup (e.g. Quanser AMPAQ-L4 amplifier, Q8-USB data acquisition board, and Quarc for Windows single user license.

Delivery date is within ~ 6 weeks ARO.

Delivery Address – Naval Postgraduate School Warehouse
