About this file

This document provides answers to questions regarding Solicitation Number N4523A23Q5739 from the Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command for four three-ton bridge cranes to be installed at PSNS IMF in Bremerton, Washington. Question one asks to clarify whether the specification requires non-sparking material or 320 BHN forged steel for sheaves. The answer states that all references to non-sparking material have been removed from the Statement of Work as that was an outdated design consideration, and the specification now requires 320 BHN forged steel sheaves.

Question 1:

Specification section 2.2.9.8.8 requires non-sparking material for sheaves, while section 2.2.9.12.2 requires sheaves be made of forged steel, and 2.2.9.12.3 requires minimum hardness of 320 BHN for sheaves. There are very few if any materials which may meet all of these requirements. Is it desired to have non-sparking material or 320 BHN forged steel?

Answer 1:

All sections pertaining to "non-sparking" terminology have been removed. The non-sparking terminology and its consequential requirements were present due to an outdated design consideration. The SOW has been updated to reflect the changes.
