GENERAL OVERVIEW
Dry Dock 4 is located at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia. The dry dock, constructed in 1919, supports repairing, overhauling, and modernizing ships and submarines.
The dry dock is approximately 1,012’ long, 144’ wide at coping level, and 51’ deep. The existing walls and floors are primarily unreinforced concrete. The existing caisson seat is granite blocks, and the caisson is of the older hydrometer style. Due to its age, Dry Dock 4 is in need of renovations to meet Navy certification requirements.
