RFI Questions & Answers
1. Do we know if there will be a proprietary issue with the fire alarm panels? Answer is yes.
2. Will any of this work need to be done off-hours? Answer is no.
3. The inspector mentioned a 24-hour air pressure test on all of the work needed for the dry systems. Will a 24-hour fire watch be needed?
Referencing Assistant Fire Chief Ms. Lynn Fies email dated Monday 9/2/2019 8:58 stated:
Depending on what is repaired/replaced, determines the testing needed. The UFC refers to NFPA for acceptance testing standards. NFPA 25 (which also refers to NFPA 13) 4.6.5 states that when a component or subsystem of the sprinkler system is adjusted, repaired, or replaced it shall be tested per the acceptance test requirements. NFPA 25 states that for sprinkler heads over 20 and all piping & valves replaced/repaired need to conduct the hydrostatic test at 200 psi for 2 hours with no pressure drop. Any dry system repair/replacement will need to have the hydrostatic test (200 psi for 2 hours with no pressure drop) and an additional pneumatic test of 40 psi for 2 hours with no more than a 1.5-psi drop. These tests can run back to back (if successfully passed). I will not require the 24 hours pneumatic test. Therefore, a fire watch (besides the contractors being present) may not be required depending on the area covered.
