About this file
This document is a technical specification sheet for the OE Buoy Wave Energy Converter (WEC) by Ocean Energy, specifically the OE35 configuration. The device uses an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) concept in a floating hull that converts wave motion and underwater pressure into electricity through an air turbine/generator, which can be transmitted to shore via a subsea cable. The OE35 is constructed with stiffened steel panels, weighs approximately 700 tonnes, and features a yellow above-water section and a red underwater section, currently fitted with a Dresser Rand / Siemens Hydro Air® Self Rectifying Turbine.
The OE Buoy has multiple potential applications across utility-scale power generation, ocean fuel production, carbon-free islands, and connected ocean technologies. At the PacWave South testing site, the OE35 demonstrates an annual energy production of 775 kWh with the capability to produce 33,484 lbs of hydrogen per year, generate 68.25 million gallons of potable water annually, and capture 247.62 tons of carbon per year. The large primary buoyancy module can also accommodate additional systems like reverse osmosis desalination plants or electrolyzers for green hydrogen production, making it a versatile renewable energy solution.

Text version
OE Buoy – Wave Energy Converter
OE Buoy Configuration – OE35
The OE Buoy Wave Energy Converter (WEC) uses the technologically mature Oscillating Water Column
(OWC) concept built into a floating hull. The motion of the floating system, combined with the wave pressure underwater, causes the water surface in the OWC to be driven through an air turbine/generator which creates electricity for transmission to the shore via a subsea cable. The large primary buoyancy module has sufficient volume to contain a Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plant to produce potable water or an electrolyser system to produce Green Hydrogen.
APPLICATIONS

OE35 SPECIFICATIONS
The OE35 WEC device is constructed using stiffened steel panels. The red shaded area is located underwater with the yellow part of the device above the waterline. The weight of the device is circa 700 tonnes.
The configuration of the OE35 shown is fitted with the Dresser Rand / Siemens Hydro Air©
Self Rectifying Turbine but alternatives such as the Wells Turbine are possible. This is connected to the electrical generator with all of the power quality systems and controller mounted in the machine room contained within the primary buoyancy module.
