About this file
This document is a detailed technical specification for demineralizer assemblies to be furnished to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The specification outlines requirements for pressure vessels with a design pressure of 150 PSI, design temperature of 140°F, flow rate of 25 GPM, and resin/media volume of 7 cubic feet. The vessels must be contained within an overpack/HIC container and meet ASME BPVC-VIII standards with U stamp certification.
Key requirements include: the pressure vessel must be filled with 3.5 cubic feet each of activated carbon and HOH resin, undergo hydrostatic testing at 135% of design pressure, and have 1" NPT connections with male camlok CRES fittings. The assembly requires specific lifting attachments - two 1/2"-13 UNC 2B tapped lifting holes for the vessel and four lifting points with 10:1 safety factor shackles for the overpack. Extensive testing, certification, and documentation requirements are detailed in the appendix, including load testing, magnetic particle inspection, and visual inspections. The specifications also mandate freeze protection during shipping and proper labeling of all components.
