ItemQuestionAnswer
Main Deck PreserveMain Deck has several Peck & Hale cloverleaf tie down sockets that are severely degraded. Are these to be replaced or preserved in current condition? Are new P&H cloverleaf rubber covers desired?Flush Deck sockets are to be replaced as needed and rubber covers to be installed.
Attachments, remove"Deck Equipment" hold stowage area has an abandoned electrical system installed. Is it to be removed? Will it include associated wiring in other voids? Is there a plan for restoring watertight integrity between voids if cable removal leaves bulkheads with open penetrations?Electrical system is to be removed and associated bulkhead and deck penetrants are to be removed and filled.
Manhole coversManhole covers currently do not have air test fittings. Are these to be installed?Yes.
Mooring/Towing attachmentsWill these require just NDT inspection, or will a weight test also be required? Are placards to be installed noting tests/results?NDT and weight test will be required for towing and mooring fixtures with placards installed.
DrawingsAre as-built drawings for YC 1679 available to support shipcheck planning and work item development? If so, will they be provided before or after the initial shipcheck?Available from the Planning Yard.
ElectricalDoes the scope include verification or testing of the barge's power system as part of the overhaul planning? Should any assessments of operational capability be included in our work items?Electrical system is to be removed and associated bulkhead and deck penetrants are to be removed and filled.
Deck FittingsFor any Peck & Hale deck fittings identified during the shipcheck, is the expectation to replace only those confirmed as damaged, or should all be removed and replaced to maintain uniform service life and appearance across the vessel?Flush Deck sockets are to be replaced as needed and rubber covers to be installed.
Towing FixturesIs there a preference for how towing fixture identification should be marked (e.g., stamped vs. faceplate)? Should this be addressed in the work items?Placards for fixture identification and weight test shall be stamped.
GasketsAre gasket inspections and/or replacements expected to be part of the scope for any deck fittings or hull attachments removed or reinstalled during the availability? All gaskets for manhole covers and watertight fittings are to have gaskets replaced
Load TestWill load testing of mooring and towing attachments be required following installation or modification? If so, should load test procedures and plans be developed and submitted as part of the deliverables?NDT and weight test will be required for towing and mooring fixtures with placards installed.
Clover Leaf tie down socketsIt looks like the customer wants the worn clover leaf sockets replaced and rubber covers added to all of them. Is it the intent of the government to add this to the Main deck/Preserve spec? Typically the Main deck preserve work item would be for preservation of the main deck, removing rust, degraded steel.new work item added to SOW
Electrical power system removalThe next question is for the removal of the abandoned electrical system. Is it the government's intention to add the electrical removal to the attachments removal item?
Typically a separate work item is developed for the electrical removal and patching of bulkheads/decks related to the removal.new work item added to SOW
Pull TestDoes the government want the pull test added to the work item for the NDT testing for the mooring/towing attachments?yes, it will be added to NDT Testing
