· Is one of these shafts a Virginia Class Shaft?:

"Shaft 2276 is a Virginia Class shaft. The new manufacturing process for the VA class shafts is most likely shot peened in two separate processes. PNSY is not manufacturing a new shaft but instead refurbishing shaft 2276. We plan on shot peening the entire shaft in one trip based on the rational below:

Since we are refurbishing this shaft we are reusing the FWD sleeve which is install over the 6 foot bearing area (FWD sleeve journal). Since there is no way to remove the FWD sleeve without damaging it we will not be performing any shot peening to this area 6 foot area.

The 9 foot bearing area (AFT bearing journal) is currently rough machined to within 0.015" over the final diameter and per note 7081 it is ready to be shot peened.

The rest of the shaft body is currently in a final machined state and per note 7081 it is also ready to be shot peened."

· Below are estimates of the shot peened surface areas for each shaft:

Shaft S/N 2276: 335 Ft^2

Shaft S/N 1884: 1 Ft^2

Shaft S/N 1111: 3.5 Ft^2

Shaft S/N 1112: 3.5 Ft^2
