2.1.3 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW BATHROOMS

The work shall include everything necessary in order to have a perfectly operational and modern bathroom facility for the school. The work shall include, but shall not be limited to the following items of work:

- Demolitions: Demolish everything within the areas to be renovated. This includes floor and wall tiles, electrical installation, water, sewer and vent piping, existing plumbing fixtures, windows, doors, necessary partitions, and everything that may interfere with the construction of the new bathroom facilities.

- Floor: Remove existing tiles and provide new grès tiles of minimum dimension 40x40 cm, sloped towards a new floor drain. Do not install the new floor tiles over the existing tiles. This is specially important in the areas with low ceiling. Provide supporting base as necessary and recommended by the manufacturer. All floor shall be at the same elevation. Provide non slippery tiles, sloped towards floor drains (one for each room) to be connected with the new sewer piping system. Install floor tiles diagonally with respect to the walls. Color and pattern to be selected by the beneficiary among ample selection to be provided by the contractor.

Floor Material: Non-glazed floor tiles of grès material (artificial granite), laser cut, with water resistant joints. Grès Porcelain stoneware is a ceramic with a compact, hard, colored and non-porous body. The word “grès” means that the ceramic body of the tile is extremely vitrified, that is to say compact, hence the exceptional great resistance. The result is a lean clay body, little refractory, fired in a kiln (at 1200-1400 C°) until it reaches a non-porous vitrification and a complete water-proofing.

Provide wall base with special wall trim pieces similar to the floor tiles. Cutting floor tiles to be used as wall base is not acceptable.

- Floor drains: Provide one floor drain per room. Total of 5 floor drains are required for the new bathroom facilities. Provide stainless steel floor drain with integral p-trap to avoid bad smells.

- Walls: Remove plaster as necessary in order to provide a perfectly leveled surface in which to install the new ceramic tiles. Repair any cracks of structural defects before leveling the walls. Provide ceramic tiles from the floor (wall base ceramic tile) to the ceiling. Ceramic tiles shall with minimum dimension 20x30 cm. Provide combination of 3 colors and patterns, to be selected by beneficiary among ample selection to be provided by the contractor. Provide friso (decorative tile) in middle and highest heights. Middle one can be substituted by metal friso, as seen in picture#13.

The edges of the ceramic tiles shall all be protected by exposed metal corner guard as shown in picture#14. No edge of any tile shall be exposed to the view.

Provide non-glazed ceramic tiles (for walls) with water resistant joints, glued onto the surface of the wall. Provide with stainless steel corner guards embedded in the wall tiles.

- Partitions for new layout: If applicable. New partitions that may be required by new layout shall be made of thin masonry wall, not wider than 20 cm. Cover all surfaces with new ceramic tiles as with the rest of the walls. It is also estimated that new false walls will need to be built in several areas to hide the water tanks for the toilets and the piping installation.

- Ceiling: The existing ceiling has different heights. In the common and girls areas it is very low and in the boys area it is high. For that reason the ceiling finishes shall be different in each area as required below:

o Areas with low ceilings: Repair existing ceiling surfaces. The work includes removing the defective plaster, fixing any structural defects, providing one leveling plaster layer and finishing with washable paint.

o Areas with high ceilings: Provide gypsum board plastered ceiling. The work includes removing the defective plaster, fixing any structural defects, and covering all ceiling surfaces with plastered and painted gypsum board supported by new galvanized metal structure. Provide with access hatches as necessary to allow for maintenance of any installation over the ceiling surface. Paint with washable (oil based) paint. Use “green” type gypsum board, rated and certified to be used in humid atmospheres. Install as high as technically possible, allowing sufficient space for the utilities that may be installed over the suspended ceiling and for the recessed lighting fixtures. Once work is completed, all existing piping to remain shall be installed above the drop ceiling surfaces, so that no piping is exposed to the view.

- Electrical: Provide complete new electrical installation for the renovated bathrooms.

Provide a new electric panel connected with the main electric panel of the school to supply electricity to the new bathroom facilities. All electrical installation to be recessed along the walls, ceilings, floors, so that no electrical cables or conduits are exposed to the view, including conduits, junction boxes, lighting fixtures, switches, electric panels, etc. The electrical installation shall include:

o Designed and installed in accordance with European standards.

o All electrical equipment to be CE certified.

o All electrical installation to be done in conduits recessed within the walls. Electric panels, cables, junction boxes, boxes for the switches, receptacle boxes,… shall all be installed recessed within the new walls, which are to be covered with ceramic tiles. Direct installation of the cables under the plaster is not acceptable. All cables to be installed under electric conduit, even above the drop ceiling.

o Two electrical receptacles: One electrical receptacle in each the teacher’s bathrooms and another in the Common area lobby. No electrical receptacles in the other areas.

o Lighting fixtures: Provide illumination levels as required by Ukrainian regulations:

For high ceiling areas provided with new gypsum board ceiling: Provide new recessed rapid start fluorescent lighting fixtures, with washable diffuser.

Equipment to be recessed, so that only the diffuse is exposed after the installation.

For low ceiling areas provide similar type of lighting fixture (fluorescent rapid start) but surface mounted.

o Automatic start hand driers. Hardwire to the walls, so that the cables are not exposed to the view.

o Provide individual circuits for lighting and power, so that when all hand driers are operating, there is no dimming in the lighting of the rooms. Voltage drop to be less than 3%. This will be tested for acceptance of electrical installation.

o Ventilation: Provide forced (electrical ) ventilation as detailed in next bullet.

- Ventilation: The bathroom facilities shall be provided with 3 separate and independent electrical air exhaust or ventilation system. Each exhaust fan shall be provided with a switch to select among 3 speeds for the fan. As a minimum, the fan capacity shall be sufficient to replace the volume of air in the corresponding area in a maximum of 4 minutes:

o Teachers Toilet: Provide an air exhaust to the exterior. It is recommended to install the air exhaust directly in the new window to be provided. The ceiling is very low and therefore there is no space for any air ducts.

o Girls Toilet: Same as above.

o Boys Toilet: Provide an air exhaust system to be installed over the new drop ceiling so that the fan, air ducts or opening to the exterior is not exposed to the view.

- Water supply: Provide new water line from the nearest available water line with sufficient flow and pressure to supply all plumbing fixtures. The acceptance criteria would be to flush all toilets and 4 sinks at the same time. There shall be no visually noticeable drop in pressure or flow in the 4 faucets of the sinks. Provide all water pipes inside of the bathroom areas recessed within the walls, so that they are not exposed to the view. Provide mechanic automatic faucets (not electric) in all sinks. Do not provide hot water to the bathrooms.

- Hot water: Not required.

- Windows: Replace existing windows and resize as necessary for the new design of the bathrooms. Provide new 5 chamber PVC profile window with double non transparent glazing (6-16-6). For estimating purposes the contractor shall estimate that 80% of the window surface to open vertically and horizontally, and to be provided with removable mosquito net.

Provide with PVC sill inside and aluminum sill outside. Repair all adjacent surfaces, interior and exterior, so that there is no evidence of any construction activity.

- Doors: The contract includes replacing all doors in the areas to be renovated. The number and location of doors shall be determined by the new design to be proposed by the contractor. Some doors shall be replaced, and some other existing doors shall be substituted by an opening with an arc in the top. The contractor shall propose their design, but as a guideline the doors highlighted in green in picture#07 are estimated to have to be replaced, and the doors highlighted in red are estimated to be replaced with an opening with an arc on the top. There shall be different type of doors, depending on their use:

o Exterior door: There is one exterior door in the hallway area: This door shall be replaced with new thermally insulated PVC door, provided with glass opening in the upper half provided with double glazing of minimum thickness 6 mm.

Picture#07: Potential required doors and wall openings with arc on the top o Interior doors to be replaced with new: Provide new PVC doors without bottom threshold without locks, except for the teachers bathroom that shall be provided with locks.
