SECTION SF 30 BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE
SUMMARY OF CHANGES
SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE
The following have been added by full text:
QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES
Question#4: Is the sub in dry dock where the work will be done, or in the water? And which dry dock will it be in?
Response#4: The current plans are to accomplish the cleaning of the USS Hawaii sanitary tanks during their "nesting" period while the submarine is in the water.
Question#5: Why is the sub personnel chlorinating and opening the tanks? The tank cleaners should be doing that. Will there be any other chemical introduced in to the tank besides bleach when the Navy is chlorinating?
Response#5: The work spec is written for the initial chlorination and pump down of the sanitary tanks to be accomplished by ship's force. Only bleach is added to during the initial chlorination. In addition, the tanks are being chlorinated by ships force because of the orientation of the access cover to the tanks being on the side on the Virginia Class. Ship's Force will introduce chlorine when the system is closed/intact, once the tank covers are opened the tanks will not be able to be filled to the top as in a traditional 688 class submarine.
Question#6: The specs stated that the bleach should sit for an hour, however, Navy Regs specify at least 24 hours, which is correct? Is Gamazyne allowed?
Response#6: Cannot find anywhere in work spec that states the bleach should sit for an hour, initial chlorination will be at least 24 hours. The Engineering approved work spec only allows for bleach to be used at this time.
