#12
NAME OF CONTRACTOR: __DETYENS SHIPYARDS, INC.____________
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: __WI 103_________________________
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:___7.0_________________________
TITLE: __CLEANING REQUIREMENTS________________________
QUESTION:
To what cleaning/ preparation standard will the contractor be held to for each area?
ANSWER:
SSPC – SP 2, Hand tool cleaning. Hand tool cleaning removes all loose mill scale, rust, paint and other detrimental foreign matter. It is not intended that adherent mill scale, rust and paint be removed by this process. Mill scale, rust and paint are considered adherent if they cannot be removed by lifting with a dull putty knife.
SSPC – SP 1, Solvent Cleaning. This method of surface preparation is meant to remove soluble substances from steel. Before a paint or other protective coating is applied, a solvent is used to remove all visible oil, grease, dirt, drawing or cutting compounds or other soluble contaminants. Solvents may include steam, emulsifying agents or other cleaning compounds.
ISO 8501-1 Surface Preparation Standards for Abrasive Blast and Hand and Power Tool Cleaning, St 2. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease, dust, dirt, and from poorly adhering mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter.
