#11
NAME OF CONTRACTOR: __DETYENS SHIPYARDS, INC.____________
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: __WI 102_________________________
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:___7.0_________________________
TITLE: __ALUMINUM REQUIREMENTS________________________
QUESTION:
· For areas in 7.4 needing weld repair in paragraphs 7.6 – 7.7, how should materials be considered?
· Is the contractor to assume material has never been heat cycled before?
· In what specific areas areas is paragraph 7.9.2 referring to that will be limited to the three cycle maximum requirement?
ANSWER:
All area in way of the exhausts for the generators or main propulsion engines or exterior of the ship in way of solar heat input shall be considered moderately sensitized. All other internal structure or area not directly in way of solar input shall be considered non sensitized.
For any weld onboard one heat cycle will be assumed prior to work. If there is a concern from the contractor as to if additional weld cycles have been applied to an area, a CFR should be submitted to the MSCREP for clarification.
Paragraph 7.9.2 refers to all aluminum repairs onboard the EPF vessel.
