0522 - SW Pump Suction Valves and LTFW Cooler Bypass Repairs (VR16-0002-4)
ANSWER: WI 0522 will require temporary removal of Catwalk, Grating, at each Pump Station to remove Valves. Staging will be required for repair/replacement of LTFW Cooler Bypass Valve and piping repair. 1 and 2 Suction Valves are mounted beneath the chloropac unit skid. The valves can be removed without cutting out skid but hand rails, deck grating and catwalk step down ladder should be removed. Also the 1.5” saltwater supply line to the chloropac unit will need to be removed. Any other object in the way that can be broken should be removed. Rigging should be done with beam clamps and straps working around 24” lines in the overhead.
#3 SW valve is much more in the open and rigging is similar but easier to rig. See photos that follow that show the interferences for WI 522.

| PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: | 2.3 and 7.1 | |
| TITLE: | Vane Axial Fan Motor Overhauls |
QUESTION: In section 2.0 References list 2.3 Standard Item 49. Standard item 49 states that the contractor shall grit blasted to bare metal the fan housing, then apply one (1) coat primer and one (1) finish coat to match surrounding areas for units located within the interior of the ship.
Reference 2.3 is not invoked in section 7.1.
Is the intent to overhaul just the motors and balance fans or remove fan casings from the ship per ref 2.3 which may require some temporary access cuts?
ANSWER: The intent is to overhaul the motors, balance fans, and preserve housing and adjacent fire damper where applicable, per 7.3.1.b. Access cuts may be required dependent on rigging capability and repair yard’s process for overhauling fan/motor and preserving housing/dampers.
