QUESTION AND ANSWER
Question:
This Amendment (0001) addresses the exact same question that exceptions applied. Unfortunately the answer does not answer the problem it actually causes another that the engineer may not have taken into account. Increasing the flatness to .010 makes it worse since you are going to glue glass to both sides of the part. Once you mount the part to the mating surface and tighten the screws you will flatten out the bow causing the glass to break or pop off. The sides are not of concern it's the recessed window, one option could be to mechanically polish the window ? This should reduce the bow.
This was not brought up before because of lack of awareness of the bonding process. Also the Luminous Transmittance test is not a variable of flame polishing, it only comes into play if you mechanically polish since you can now vary the grit of your polishing compound. Flame Polish is a one shot, you cannot flame polish a second time.
Answer:
Concur, both sides of the lens should be mechanically polished since the flame polishing will not meet the flatness requirement needed.
