Linux Cluster- Technical Requirements List:
A. Description
1. Provided hardware shall consist of add-on nodes to our existing ICE-X
Linux cluster.
B. General Requirements: Key aspects of the hardware are as follows.
1. Compatibility with our existing ICE-X machine
2. “64-bit” CPU architecture
3. Solid State Drive (SSD) installed in compute nodes
4. Infiniband networking topology
5. RAID platform for expandable shared storage
6. Scalable platform
7. High density packaging
8. Front-side cabling
9. Air-cooled design
10. N+1 redundant power supplies
11. Hot-swap compute blades
C. Detailed minimum specifications.
1. Each node shall have, at a minimum, dual-slot x86_64 CPU support (i.e. minimum, two (2) CPU sockets, per node)
a) The CPU architecture shall be Intel Xeon E5v2
2. Each node shall have, at a minimum, 8 cores per CPU; 16 cores total in each compute node
3. Each node shall have, at a minimum, 4 GB of RAM per CPU core in each compute node (i.e. minimum 64 GB RAM per compute node)
4. Dual single-port Infiniband HCAs, with dual fabrics
a) Shall support OFED software stack
b) Shall include OpenSM for fabric management
5. Each compute node shall have one solid state storage device (SSD), with a minimum capacity of 240GB per SSD
6. 16 TB of scalable storage, installed and configured, with clustered file system
7. Must include out-of-band embedded server management capability
a) Shall have the ability to retain compute node and service node events
b) Shall provide simultaneous power management of multiple compute nodes and service nodes
8. Installed and configured software shall include the following, including all necessary licenses to utilize the software on all nodes, new and old, of the cluster.
a) Centralized node-monitoring software and machine imaging and maintenance tools for complete cluster management
(1) Continuous hardware monitoring
(2) Continuous environmental monitoring
b) PBS Professional queuing system
c) Intel Fortran Compiler for Linux
d) Intel C++ Compiler for Linux
e) Intel MPI Runtime Environment
9. All hardware and software components shall include installation, configuration, and operating documentation to include all required benchmark test results.
