Requisition No: TBD Date:
Item Being Purchased: Mk 70 Booster Fins 1030-5082
SPECIAL SHIPPING/PACKAGING INSTRUCTIONS
It is necessary to include the following special provisions in this procurement.
(A) Special Shipping Instructions (Shipping Container Design & Reuse)
The vendor is responsible for the shipping container design and purchase of all packing materials. Booster Fin Kit shipping containers must be designed to withstand at least 6 transfers, loading and unloading by forklift, and structurally capable of being stacked three (3) high. After contract award, contractors may choose to coordinate re-use of shipping container with Contract Officer Representative, provided containers are available. If a container is re-used, an inspection must be documented prior to re-use. The contractor is responsible for ensuring all containers meet the stated requirements.
(A.1.) Design /Packaging Considerations
(A.1.a.) General Description: The container shall hold one Booster Fin Kit which has four (4)-Booster Fins. The shipping container’s design may be any suitable material acceptable to the container fabricator.
A generic description is a six-sided box, with approximate dimensions L=40, W=36, H=24 inches. The container should hold the fins upright with reinforced dividers. Fins must be secured to prevent movement and protected from impacting the side of the container or other fins. The containers exterior surfaces must be painted with outdoor water-resistant paint. The bottom of the container must include fork pockets for lifting and transfers. The container lid must be hinged and capable of at least 12 open and close cycles, with a hasp / closure that can be secured.
(A.1.b) Specific Requirements: The container must be structurally capable of stacking vertically a minimum of 3-high. For safety margin/reduce risks; the load capacity for a single container, should be 4-times the gross weight of one loaded container. Please refer to Figure 1 and Figure 2 as examples of a generic Booster Fin Kit container/over pack. Figure 1 references the exterior container features. Figure 2 shows one method to support/secure and protect the Booster Fins during shipping and storage.
(A.1.c) Booster Fin Kit containers must be permanently marked by any method. Marking locations are front, and one-adjacent side. For reference locations see Figure 1.
The following information must be legible and Printed in at least ½-inch characters.
1. Item Name: MK 70 GQM-163A BOOSTER FINS
2. Fin Drawing Number-1030-5082-002
3. CONTRACT NUMBER-N00174-
4. Fin Fabricators’ CAGE CODE- XXXX
5. QUANTITY-4 FINS and GROSS WEIGHT
6. BOOSTER FIN KIT SERIAL NUMBER

Exterior Features and Requirements
Features and Requirements
● Lid Lock:
The Fabricator shall select a heavy duty hasp/closure that can be secured e.g., lock wire & seal/padlock/cable lock.
● Marking Location:
Two places on container exterior.
♦ One-front (lid opening side) ♦ One adjacent side to front
● Marking Format:
Best level of effort/practice using moisture resistant ink. “Permanently mark” with container in a legible and easily read font size method may be stencil & ink or self-stick pre-printed label.
● Integrated Fork Pockets:
Design must consider safety, universal function, loaded gross weight, and stability.
● Exterior Finish:
Container’s exterior surfaces, (6-Sides) must be uniformly coated with water-resistant paint. For example: metal / wooden / composite materials must be painted for weather-protection.

Top View Lid Open Interior Features and Requirements
● Interior Structural Design:
Packed Fins must be supported upright by reinforced dividers. Fins must be secured and restrained to prevent movement.
A protective cover should be installed on each fin support bushing (drawing C34242) and Fin Cant Block (drawing 1118AS302).
Box should contain space for a copy of fabrication documents and manufacturing materials COC /COA enclosed in the container (show circled in Figure 2).
(B) Booster Fins & Container, Serialization, and Marking
(B.1.) Containers shall be numbered consecutively from 1000 to 1006.
(B.2.a) Booster Fin Kit (4-Fins in one container), shall be individually numbered with a unique serial number. The serial number shall match the container serial number with the addition of “-1” for the first fin, “-2” for the second, “-3” for the third, and “-4” for the forth. For example the first fin in container 1000 would be labeled 1000-1, see Figure 3 for an example.
Figure 3
Fins marked with serial numbers (B.2.b) Booster Fins shall be marked at such that the fin serial number is visible when the container is opened, see Figure 3 for an example.
(B.2.c) Apply an anti-pilferaging or tamper evident seal (tape/lock wire wire).
(C) Container/Over Pack Visual Damage (Upon Receipt)
(C.1) Contractor shall photograph all sides of the shipping container and retain the photos for their records. Copies of the photographs may be requested if damaged to the shipping container is observed.
(C.2) If a shipping container that is damaged in shipping or handling, the entire kit will be returned to vendor (RTV) for re-inspection of the container and enclosed hardware. Acceptance testing must be repeated on all fins in the damaged container. If photographs taken in C.1 show damage was preexisting RTV and re-inspection may be waived.
(D) Special Instruction For Shipping Configuration additional requirements (D.1) The Fin Cant Block (drawing1181AS302, replaces ME71333), shall be installed with two set screws per drawing 1030-5082-002 “Detail B” torque to 30 ± 5 inch-pounds.
(D.2) Install a heavy duty protective cap on the Fin Cant Block (drawing1181AS302) and the Fin Post Bushing (drawing C34242). The cap should protect the hardware during shipping and handling to avoid damage during transfers, transport, and storage.
