QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Questions and Answers for N0016424RWP13

1. Question:

We have made rotary couplers before to resolve a DMS issue for the AN/SPN-35, on that part the peak power level and testing while rotating exceeded our equipment, we tested insertion loss, return loss and other parameters required indexing it around as our equipment did not provide the capabilities to rotate and collect this data. On the program the procuring group was amenable to that and we supported completion of the FAT on their SIL. We utilize CPI to perform testing that exceeds our tubes and manson whether due to peak or average. However as this coupler is a 500 KW peak and the coupler is not completely assembled until mounted in the SPS-67 Pedestal per the documentation and then FAT is completed, We just want to determine if the mechanical inspection and indexing data is sufficient for delivery and then we provide support for FAT at your facility/SIL.

Answer:

For the peak power issue we could provide a test pedestal to utilize for peak power testing. The requirement should be for the rotary coupler by itself, but if the concern is how to assemble and mount appropriately we could provide an empty pedestal.

2. Question:

The two absorbers that according to the drawing are type TH material from Arnold Engineering Company; I do not find that vendor online but have located Arnold Magnetics Co. that makes magnetic materials but has not responded to our inquiry. Regardless, we do use a number of suppliers for magnetic and absorber materials so our request is if it is possible to get some of these pieces that are residual so that we can get matching materials from our known vendors in case the Arnold Magnetics Co. I found is unrelated to the original company?

Answer:

We are not opposed to providing an F-condition rotary coupler for testing purposes of the absorber materials. We do have a couple BER units.
