(c) Except for the Government information and data specified by paragraphs (a) and (b) above, the Government will not be obligated to furnish the Contractor any specification, standard, drawing, technical documentation, or other publication, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the contract specifications, the GFI identified in an attachment in Section J, the clause of this contract entitled "Government Property" (FAR 52.245-1) or "Government

3.4.3.2.2.2 Second Coat – Ameron PSX 700 Engineered Siloxane coating, FED-STD-595 Color #26270, 3-5 mils DFT

3.4.3.3 Notes

3.4.3.3.1 Only dry abrasive blast cleaning techniques shall be used.

3.4.3.3.2 Use aluminum oxide, sponge-jet aluminum oxide silver sponge, mineral quartz sand, or nonquartz abrasive media. Size shall be selected to give an anchor tooth profile of 1.5 -2.5 mils.

3.4.3.3.3 Obtain accurate Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) level of thinners from coating manufacturer. Use thinners specified by coating manufacturer for each product (coating) being applied.

3.4.3.3.4 In order to achieve good flow (wetting) characteristics for thin coatings, atomization of paint spray gun without exceeding local maximum allowable VOC levels may be required.

3.4.3.3.5 Avoid mixing partial kits. Partial kits may only be used when performing local touch up/repairs. Mixing ratio of each coating component (i.e., base (resin), zinc powder, catalyst (cure), etc.) shall be in accordance with coating manufacturer specifications.

3.4.3.3.6 Applies to 3.4.3.1 ONLY. When applying zinc-rich coatings, constant mixing of the paint is required during application. If a pressure tank is used during application, it must be equipped with an agitator assembly to continuously stir the paint. If a High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) pressure assist cup or a siphon cup is used, clean 3/8" diameter 316 stainless steel balls must be placed into the cup and the gun frequently (i.e., every 2 minutes) agitated by hand.

3.4.3.3.7 Applies to 3.4.3.1 ONLY. The high concentration of zinc metal powder inhibits the ability of Wet Film Thickness (WFT) gages to produce an accurate reading. WFT gage shall be used to obtain approximate WFT readings. WFT gage will yield a lower result than actual WFT.

3.4.3.3.8 When performing coating preparation, application, and cure operations, ambient and prepared metal substrate surface temperatures shall be between 60°F and 90°F, surface temperature shall be a maximum of 5°F above dew point temperature and relative humidity shall be less than 85%.

3.4.3.3.9 Dry-to-recoat window is defined as a window in which reactivation (i.e., washing, abrading, etc.)

of the previously applied coating is not required to attain a strong chemical and mechanical bond to a new paint coat. In addition, sufficient solvents have evaporated and the previously applied coating has solidified enough to safely allow application of more coatings. Do not exceed a 65 hour recoat window for zinc-rich epoxy coatings.

3.4.3.3.10 If the dry-to-recoat window of the previously applied coating is exceeded, all surfaces must be reactivated before applying another coating by either following the manufacturer instructions for reactivating the surface or cleaning the entire surface using a fresh water and detergent wash, followed by a fresh water rinse. After allowing the surface to dry, the surface shall be lightly abraded using a brush-off abrasive blast, power sanding, or hand sanding followed by vacuuming and SSPC-SP1 solvent wipe using reagent grade isopropyl alcohol (99% minimum alcohol content).

3.4.3.3.11 Dry-to-hard cure time is defined as the time required for an applied coating to reach a fully cured condition through the entire cross-section of the coating film. At this point, a new coating will not chemically bond (adhere) to the previous coat.

3.4.3.3.12 After mixing and thinning, all coatings must be filtered through a paint strainer.

3.4.3.3.13 Use a dedicated fluid hose for zinc-rich epoxy coatings and a second fluid hose for other coatings to minimize contamination.

3.4.3.3.14 To provide contrast and thus help ensure that an even, uniform Wet Coating Film is being applied, each coating layer shall be of a different contrasting color.
