! . I NTRODUCTION
1.~ Scope. This Ordnance Data provides personnel with procedures to assemble and test the Torpedo Parachute Release Mk 32 Mod 1, describes critical tolerances which must be maintained to assure reliable operation , and lists the tools and supplies with which to perform the procedures .
Adherence to the procedures of chis Ordnance Data is mandatory. I
1.3 Description. The torpedo parachute release is an accessory assembly used with the Torpedo Hk 46 Mods during air-launch or rocket-thrown maneuvers . Functionally , the parachute release serves to disengage the parachu:e From the torpedo at water ent=Y· Premature release at parachute deployment is preven:ed by a lock pin, which secures the release weight in ··safe '' position until after parachute deployment . A gas generator, ignited as the parachute opens, releases the lock pin after a nominal one-second delay; the movement of a weight frees the mechanical coupling as the torpedo et\ters the wa t er, thus separating the parachute from the torpedo .
