1.0 SCOPE
This Statement of Work (SOW) defines the efforts required for the fabrication, production, testing, and logistics support services of the Large Vertical Array (hereinafter referred to as LVA) and associated Fixtures, Array Staves, Outboard Electronics (OBEs), Fairings, and Cables with Connectors. This SOW includes detailed requirements for OHIO Class SSBN and VIRGINIA Class Back-fit submarine Fixtures; First Article Manufacturing and Testing; LVA Systems and associated equipment; Spare Modules, OBEs, Fairings, and Cables with Connectors; along with Program Management, Data Management, Logistics Support, Configuration Management, Test and Evaluation, Installation Support, and Engineering Services. Engineering Services shall be performed as specified in the Contract and as clarified in individual Technical Instructions, as issued by the Government.
1.1 Background
Current and projected threat capabilities justify the implementation of LVAs in order to improve detection awareness and maintain Anti-Submarine Warfare acoustic superiority for U.S. Navy Attack Submarines (SSNs) and Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBNs). The LVA system adds a medium-frequency passive SONAR capability, improving detection and classification of contacts of interest. Further, LVA reduces counter-detection and affords the ship acoustic superiority.
The LVA is a conformal acoustic array planned for installation on the sides of OHIO Class SSBNs and VIRGINIA Class SSNs. The array will be comprised of sensors, array staves, fairings, cables, and outboard electronics. This SOW encompasses the required work to be performed for development, production, and delivery of Fixtures and for production and delivery of LVAs for the OHIO Class SSBNs and VIRGINIA Class (VA) Back-fit SSNs (hereinafter referred to as OHIO SSBN and VA Back-fit).
