About this file
This document is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) file providing clarification on a Request for Information (RFI) regarding an additively manufactured solid-propellant ducted rocket motor system.
The RFI seeks market research on form, fit, and function replacements for a legacy ducted rocket motor, with the primary focus on an additively manufactured cylindrical component measuring 15 inches in diameter and 120 inches in length. Respondents must design the cylinder to remain within a system mass allocation of 600 pounds (excluding propellant). The Government does not prescribe specific metal material requirements or provide materials, allowing offerors flexibility in material selection provided design constraints are met. Submissions are limited to 20 pages inclusive of all content, including cover pages and tables of contents. The RFI is for market research purposes only and is not a formal solicitation; the Government welcomes any viable and feasible solutions that meet the stated requirements, including partial submissions that address specific aspects of the requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Is the offeror to provide a turnkey propulsion system (i.e., Solid-propellant ducted rocket motor) that includes the additively manufactured cylinder?
A1: The Government is exploring the potential for a form, fit, function replacement for a legacy ducted rocket motor.
Q2: Is the estimate for the additive manufactured FFF Envelope to be based on a 15" diameter, 120" long cylinder? If yes, what is the estimated thickness of the cylinder?
A2: Yes. There is no specific thickness requirement. The RFI response must stay within the system mass allocation.Q3: Is the Government able to provide the metal material for the cylindrical part?
A3: The Government does not have a requirement for a specific metal material for the cylindrical part at this time.
Q4: Can the Government confirm that total system mass, which includes propellant and inert metal hardware including inlets is indeed not to exceed 600 pounds?
A4: The total cylinder mass should not exceed 600 pounds without propellant.
Q5: Does the page count consider all pages inclusive, or are cover sheets (front and back) excluded from the 20-page limit?
A5: Submissions cannot exceed the 20-page limit. The 20-page limit is inclusive of cover pages, tables of content, etc.
Q6: Is the Government interested in partial submissions?
A6: This RFI is for market research purposes only and is not a solicitation. The Government is open to any and all viable/feasible solutions capable of meeting the requirements outlined in this RFI.
