About this file

This is a market research report from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for maintenance services for an IVIS Spectrum CT Revvity spectrophotometer, with a base period plus four option years. The requirement is for a service contract to maintain equipment in the CDC's Viral Special Pathogens Branch, with a Product Service Code of J066 and NAICS code 811210.

The market research identified Revvity as the only capable provider after the previous CDC-wide maintenance contract with REMI was discontinued in 2024. PerkinElmer, the original equipment manufacturer, sold their relevant division to Revvity Health Sciences. Revvity, established in 2022 with 11,000 employees across 190 countries, is determined to be the sole provider capable of servicing the equipment (serial number IS1916N7660) without voiding the manufacturer's warranty. The maintenance is required to comply with CLIA, QMS, branch Standard Operating Procedures and safety guidelines. The report indicates Revvity's pricing structure is comparable to similar equipment maintenance contracts, such as those for Chromium Controller and Chromium X from 10x Genomics.

3. Service/Product Description

This purchase request is for a Revvity Signature equipment maintenance contract for our IVIS spectrophotometer, base plus four option years. Serial number: IS1916N7660.

4. Background

The IVIS was on a CDC wide maintenance contract with the contractor REMI, and is no longer being supported. Maintenance is required for equipment under CLIA, QMS, along with the branchs Standard Operating Procedures and safety guidelines. This requirment for yearly preventative maintenance also adheres to the governments mission by keeping the equipment up to date, improving equipment repair efficiency, and minimizes downtime which extends asset lifespan to ensure greater cost effectiveness.

5. Potential Supplier Information

The CDC wide maintenance contract with REMI is no longer available and was dropped in 2024. We contacted the vendor of the equipment, PerkinElmer, and https://www.acquisition.gov/content/part-2-definitions-words-and-terms#i1125359 https://www.acquisition.gov/content/part-2-definitions-words-and-terms#i1125359 https://www.acquisition.gov/content/part-2-definitions-words-and-terms#i1125359 they no longer support maintenance as a division of PerkinElmer was purchased by Revvity Health Sciences.

8. Market Intelligence/Industry Analysis

We have contacted Revvity, they are capable and gave us a quote for base plus four option years. Revvity has been around since 2022, employees 11,000 plus people, and are in 190 countries. They have a proven success record of delivering 80+ years of scienitific expertise in all areas of science, including maintenance contracts. The pricing structure is on par with similar pices of equipment, examples that we have include the Chromium Controller and Chromium X from 10x Genomics.

In looking for other companies that could provide a service contract and consulting with REMI and PerkinElmer, they have informed us Revvity is the preferred contractor for doing the work. I believe only Revvity has the capability to support and upgrade this machine without voiding the manufacturer’s warranty

9. Conclusions and Recommendations

Our conclusions are; the vendor, Revvity, is capable of performing the equipmnet maintenance in conjuction with VSPBs standard operating procedures, safety, QMS, and CLIA requirments. Revvity has been around since 2022, employees 11,000 plus people, and are in 190 countries. They have a proven success record of delivering 80+ years of scienitific expertise in all areas of science, including maintenance contracts. They appear to be the only company qualified to service the equipment.
