About this file

This is a Minimum Requirements Document for a federal laboratory equipment procurement dated 20 May 2026.

The RQQ laboratory seeks to procure one (1) Epilog Fusion Ascent 36 CNC CO2 Laser or an equivalent alternative system to replace a failed legacy laser. The laser serves as a foundational laboratory and fabrication asset supporting the facility's power and thermal research mission, enabling rapid fabrication of custom components from dense materials including fiberglass, acrylic, and polycarbonate, as well as fabrication of foam inserts for sensitive test equipment and tool engraving for the facility's Composite Tool Kit (CTK) programs. The requirement represents a one-time replacement necessitated by supply chain obsolescence of foreign-manufactured parts in the legacy system, and an existing 40W directorate-level laser proved technically insufficient for required workload demands.

The minimum specifications require a laser system delivering at least 80W of power with a minimum cut area of 24 inches by 36 inches, capable of de-rating to Class I or Class II laser classification through use of interlocks, and capable of fully offline, air-gapped operation without internet connectivity. The vendor must provide support services with response time to be determined, source the equipment from a fully American-owned and operated company to ensure secure domestic supply chain integrity and eliminate foreign part obsolescence risk, and ensure integration compatibility with industry-standard drawing programs including Adobe Illustrator, LightBurn, or CorelDRAW.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENT

Title: Epilog Fusion Ascent 36 CNC CO2 Laser or Equal

Document Date: 20 May 2026

Background & Scope:

The vendor shall provide one (1) Epilog Fusion Ascent 36 CO2 Laser or equal.

The laser does not support one single, specific weapon system platform. Rather, it is a foundational laboratory and fabrication asset that broadly supports the RQQ laboratory's power and thermal research mission. It directly supports various experimental platforms and testing environments by enabling the rapid fabrication of custom components from dense materials (fiberglass, acrylic, polycarbonate). Additionally, it supports general laboratory operations and safety programs by fabricating custom foam inserts for sensitive test equipment and engraving tools to maintain strict adherence to the facility's CTK programs.

Historically, this fabrication and engraving capability was handled in-house using a different legacy laser system. This requirement is a one-time replacement for a failed legacy system that was rendered permanently unrepairable due to supply chain obsolescence of its foreign-manufactured part. Following the failure, the RQQ lab attempted to utilize an existing 40W directorate-level laser to handle the workload.

This proven to be technically insufficient, as the 40W system lacks the required power (80W minimum) to process the necessary materials at the required depth and speed.

Requirements/Salient Characteristics:

1. Epilog Fusion Ascent 36 CNC CO2 Laser or Equal

2. Shall deliver a minimum of 80W of power

3. Minimum of 24”x36” cut area

4. Shall be capable of being de-rated to Class I or Class II laser through use of interlocks

5. Shall be capable of fully offline, air-gapped operation without internet connectivity

6. Shall have Support services available. Response time is to be determined.

7. Shall be from/sourced from a fully American-owned and operated company to ensure a secure domestic supply chain and eliminate the risk of foreign part obsolescence

8. Shall integrate with reputable industry-standard drawing programs, such as Adobe Illustrator, LightBurn, or CorrelDRAW
