About this file

This is a Question & Answer document from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management (OPEM) regarding Bid #BD-25-1031-OFFIC-OFANF-108828 for warehouse refrigeration at 20 Forge Parkway, Franklin, MA. The document addresses technical specifications for a commercial refrigeration installation, including requirements for a door opening of at least 48" wide to accommodate standard 48"x40" pallets, floor load capacity of up to 4,000lbs per pallet, and integration with a building-wide electronic access system. A site visit is scheduled for October 30, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Franklin location.

The technical specifications indicate that the refrigerator will be placed adjacent to an exterior wall with 2-4 feet of service access space, and the refrigeration drain line can run directly to the exterior wall. The unit may be floorless as the warehouse floor cannot be modified for a recessed installation. The door can be either swing or sliding type, but must accommodate material handling equipment such as manual or electric pallet jacks (no forklifts). The unit must integrate with the building's keycard badging system for security access.

MDPH-OPEM Warehouse Refrigeration - GRO40

QUESTION & ANSWERS

Q: #7 mentions rolling carts and wheeled material handling equipment – what kind of weights are the floors expecting to hold?

Q: If you want a floor, what product are you planning on putting in it for weight?

Q: If you are looking for a floor, what is going on it as far as product so we can factor reinforcements?

A: A floor, if installed, shall be capable of supporting standard 48” x 40” pallets weighing up to 4,000lbs per pallet.

Q: #13 refrigerated line to be installed to drain outside or where the landlord decides – what is the estimated line run distance for the refrigeration?

A: The refrigerator will be adjacent to an exterior wall, with a small gap (~2-4ft) between the refrigerator and the wall to allow service access. The line may be run directly from the refrigeration unit to the exterior wall.

Q: #15 electric locking device, is there an after-market system that the end user has in mind?

A: MDPH has not selected a particular system to secure the refrigerator. The refrigerator locking mechanism will be integrated with a building-wide electronic access (keycard badging) system.

Q: Do you need a box with a floor or floorless?

Q: The floor, are you looking for a floorless box or with a floor that will be recessed down?

A: The refrigeration box may be floorless. The warehouse floor can not be modified to accommodate a recessed floor.

Q: Do you want a standard door 36" wide?

Q: On the door are you looking for an oversized door that swings or a sliding door?

A: The refrigerator door shall provide a clear opening no smaller than 48” wide. The door must allow access for standard 48” x 40” pallets and associated material handling equipment (manual or electric pallet jacks, forklifts will not be driven into the refrigerator). There is no preference for door opening/closing mechanism (swing vs slide). Proposed door shall meet all requirements as specified in the scope of service.

Q: Can the spaced be looked before installation?

Q: When can we meet onsite to review the scope?

A: Yes, MDPH will facilitate site visitation on Wednesday 30 OCT 2024from 9:30-10:30 at 20 Forge

Parkway, Franklin, MA 02038.
