About this file
Summary
This is a proposal document from MCI - Norfolk in Massachusetts for the installation of audio and visual equipment in the institution's CSD Auditorium. The proposal specifies comprehensive audiovisual system requirements designed to support a range of events from lectures to performances. The audio component includes an array speaker system (minimum four passive speakers), bass speakers (quantity to be vendor-assessed), wireless microphone systems (minimum four handhelds and two lavaliers from Shure or Sennheiser), a 16-channel analog mixer with 4-band EQ and built-in effects, amplifiers for passive speakers, a dB limiter, a power conditioner with sequenced on/off protocol, and a lockable rack with power ventilation. The visual component encompasses a high-lumen projector (minimum 10,000 lumens) to accommodate abundant natural light, a 4K Blu-ray player supporting DVDs and CDs, upgrades to existing stage-mounted televisions with articulating mounts, four additional televisions for side walls, an HDMI switching system, a standalone computer with monitor and wireless peripherals for presentations, stage monitors for presenters, and assessment of the existing ceiling-mounted projector screen for potential upgrade.
The proposal emphasizes that the end-user interface should be primarily analog and highly adjustable, with digital components supporting rather than replacing manual controls. All equipment racks require double cam locks for security. A separate lockable rack will house the standalone presentation computer, distinct from the main audiovisual system rack. The vendor is tasked with assessing specific requirements including the quantity of bass speakers and amplifiers, projector mounting methodology, projector screen upgrade necessity, and the number of stage monitors required. Contact information for the procurement is provided through Kurtis Li at 774-737-6755.

Proposal for Audio and Visual Equipment for the MCI - Norfolk’s CSD Auditorium
This proposal outlines the audio and visual equipment needs for MCI - Norfolk’s
CSD Auditorium. This aims to provide high-quality sound and visuals, ensuring an exceptional experience for both presenters, audience members, and end users
While some aspects of the setup may need to be digital, the end user interface should be mostly analog and highly adjustable.
Audio Equipment
Array Speakers:
Passive array speakers similar to what is usually installed in houses of worship. At a minimum we would need two at the front of the stage and two in the middle of the auditorium.
Bass Speakers:
Would need if using array speakers for mids/highs. Would possible need two, one on either side of the stage facing the auditorium. Vendor to assess and determine need.
Wireless Microphones:
At a minimum we would need four wireless microphones, preferably Shure or
Sennheiser, with at least four handhelds, four mic stands, and possibly 2 lavaliers to expand usability. Antennas at minimum would need to be external from the rack and half wave. Possibly add rechargeable batteries for the handhelds.
Analog Mixer:
At a minimum would need a 16-channel mixer with 4 Band EQ and built in FX.
This would allow enough inputs for fixed equipment while allowing for a few extra channels for concert-type events where extra microphones or instruments may need to be plugged in. The Yamaha DM3 or MGX16 may be a could compromise between analog/digital, these also have a built in Noise-gate/Compressor.
Amplifier:
Would need amplifier(s) for passive speakers. Vendor to determine quantity.
DB Limiter:
Would need a DB limiter at the end of the audio chain before sound is sent to external speakers so average user doesn’t turn the master volume so loud it damages the speakers.
Power Conditioner:
We would need a power conditioner inside the rack to power all equipment.
Preferably one that has a sequenced on/off protocol.
Rack:
Rack would need to have the ability to have all access to components lockable and with power ventilation. It would be ideal with a slide out for the mixer or a lockable cover if the mixer is top mounted.
Visual Equipment
Projector:
There are a lot of large windows (no curtains/shades) and natural light in the auditorium. Would need at a minimum a 10,000 lumen projector (possibly higher), either mounted to the truss where the old projector is mounted or using a floor deployed short throw projector, preferably with two HDMI inputs. The vendor shall assess and determine what is required.
DVD Player:
4k Blu-ray that also supports regular DVDs and CDs.
TVs:
Two TVs already exist on either side of the stage. Upgrade the mounts to articulating so they could be flat towards the audience, faced in towards a presenter, and stowed away behind the wall they are currently mounted to.
Input Functionality:
The provided DVD player will include a standalone laptop to connect to the projector and TVs. Using a HDMI switch while also having an auxiliary HDMI for additional laptop connection.
Extras
Computer:
Provide one (1) standalone microcomputer with small monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse to play presentations. Include a separate lockable rack for storage (double cam locks on rack door. This will be separate from the rack system for the main AV system which is also lockable (double cam locks on door).
Projector Screen:
Current projector screen works and lowers all the way to the floor from the ceiling. Assess for possible upgrade if required (additional cost to be determined by assessment).
Extra TVs:
Four (4) more televisions on side walls as shown on the drawing for the auditorium.
Stage Monitors:
Provide stage monitors (number as required) so presenters can hear themselves.
Conclusion
The proposed audio and visual equipment will be tailored to meet the needs of a medium-sized auditorium, offering high-quality performance and flexibility.
By investing in these technologies, the auditorium will be well equipped to host a wide range of events, from lectures to performances, ensuring an outstanding experience for all attendees.
