About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity related to laser welding a stainless steel assembly. The key details are:
The contractor will be provided welding coupons by Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to develop a laser welding process. The contractor shall create one weldment of the HSR-VA-SCN-1150, Rev C drawing as a deliverable to BNL. All welds must be performed using robotic/CNC manipulation. The contractor shall validate the welded assembly meets the drawing requirements and be certified to AS9100D. The contractor must ship all items back to BNL at BNL's expense, and no warranty is required on the parts. Any deviations from the drawing, SOW, or purchase order must be approved in writing by BNL. The related federal contract opportunity is for the Department of Energy Office of Science, with the solicitation number MB447773.

Upton, NY 11973-5000 managed by Brookhaven Science Associates for the U.S. Department of Energy
Subject: Scope of Work for PO 0000447773.
1. Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) will send Contractor the material needed for welding coupons similar to the tube-flat weld geometry found in HSR-VA-SCN-1150, Rev C.
2. The coupons shall be approximately 6” in length, and BNL shall provide enough material for approximately 5 samples.
3. Contractor shall conduct laser weld development and provide at least 1 coupon back to BNL as evidence of a well-developed weld process.
4. Brookhaven National Laboratory will then provide Contractor with a limited number of sets of all components of HSR-VA-SCN-1150, Rev C.
5. Contractor shall create 1 weldment of HSR-VA-SCN-1150, Rev C according to the drawing as a deliverable to BNL. The remaining components may be used by Contractor for their own internal development.
6. All welds between items HSR-VA-SCN-1004 and HSR-VA-SCN-0106 shall be done using robotic/computer numerical control (CNC) manipulation of the laser head and/or the position of the base components.
7. Contractor shall validate the welded assembly meets the drawing by conducting visual inspections and select dimensional inspections. Validation must be confirmed by an American Welding Society (AWS) certified weld inspector and/or AWS certified supervisor.
8. Contractor must be AS9100D certified.
9. Contractor shall ship all PO items back to BNL at BNL’s expense.
10. No warranty is required on parts that are delivered per drawing, SOW, and PO.
11. Price, lead time, and quantity are per PO.
12. Any deviation from the drawing, SOW, or PO must receive written approval by BNL.
