Product Specifications
CURRENT TRACK SURFACE
● Synthetic stranded rubber, latex track
● Color: Black
NEW TRACK SURFACE REQUESTED
● Polyurethane track system including a structural surface ‘wear coat’. We are requesting a minimum of ½” surface thickness with manufacturer’s specifications and performance specifications included with the proposal.
● Color: Black
· Other surfaces may be bid as voluntary alternates but we are requesting a minimum of ½” surface thickness with manufacturer’s specifications and performance specifications of any surface being proposed.
· We are requesting an addition to the current asphalt underlayment and the track surface in two locations:
· On the northeast turn of our track the inside lane line for lane one currently lies right on the edge of the track without any margin of track surface. We would like to extend the surface so that we have a 4-6” margin between the inside lane line of lane one and the edge of the track surface.
· There currently is an unsurfaced portion of the asphalt underlayment (approx. 12’ x 20’) on the west end of the high jump approach. We would like to add a 12’ x 30’ extension to both the north and south end of this unsurfaced portion of the approach so that athletes will not have to start their approach on the grass. We will not need to resurface approximately 12’ of both the north and south end of the current approach area.
PREPARATION
●Removal of current latex surface on running track and field event surfaces.
· Track base prep performed to make sure the asphalt base is suitable to accept a new surface. Please include the projected costs for milling and paving the base asphalt if these processes are necessary to achieve a level and true track surface.
● Includes proper disposal of track surfacing and asphalt millings if necessary.
● The area to be surfaced will be cleaned by vendor and free of any loose or foreign particles (dirt, oil, etc.) prior to the commencement of track surface.
APPLICATION
● Track surface to be installed per manufacturer’s recommendations and in accordance with the NFSHSA and ASBA guidelines for track construction.
● A manufacturer’s representative (certified by manufacturer) to supervise installation.
● Inspect existing asphalt/cement base. If repairs are needed, repairs will be with compatible materials as approved by the surfacing contractor and allowed to cure prior to the application of the synthetic surface.
● Apply a permeable, polyurethane base mat system to a minimum thickness of 13mm (½”) to all track and field event surfaces (high jump area, pole vault runway, and to the long jump runway).
● The school is requesting a spray applied wearing course of colored polyurethane and EPDM rubber granules for this proposal. We will review bid proposals for resurfacing without this application during the initial installation but with the understanding that it could be applied at a later date. Please include your best estimate of cost if the ‘wearing course’ is applied at a later time separate from the initial installation.
PAINTING
● Paint shall be of a type recommended by manufacturer of track surface and adhere to MHSAA regulations.
● No painting shall be performed when the velocity of the wind exceeds twelve (12) miles per hour, unless the spray equipment is equipped with the proper air curtains.
● All markings shall receive two (2) coats of paint to achieve the full opaque results.
LAYOUT
● Lines and markings shall be made by a competent measurer, such as a Registered Land Surveyor, Professional Engineer, Certified Track Builder (CTB) and will meet the requirements of the NFHS for a Class 4 Certified track as published by the ASBA. Documentation verifying the layout and marking of the track for Class 4 Certification must be provided to the school upon completion of the track resurfacing project.
● Lines and markings shall be made to comply with the MHSAA regulation changes for 2020 with regards to the use of a one-turn stagger rather than a two turn stagger for all races of 800M and more.
● The Superintendent and/or his designee will make a final determination of all required painting regarding this project.
● All markings shall be clearly identified and color-coded for the painter to identify.
SYMBOLS
● All lanes and lines shall be white 2 inch wide markings.
● All starts and finishes shall be two (2) inch wide lines.
● Exchange zones shall be indicated with triangles with a base one inch inside the lane line and twenty-four (24) inches high with the base as the limits of the zone.
● Acceleration marks shall be indicated with a small triangle with a base of 12” and a height of 8” clearly marked in the center of the lane.
● Hurdle marks shall be 2” x 5” tic marks on the lane line on both sides of the lane, and include Middle School and High School events.
● Lane numbers shall be not less than forty inches (40”) high and located as directed by the Owner in four (4) locations. Numbers shall be in two colors.
● Event identification shall be a minimum of three inch (3”) letters stenciled below and to the right of each lane mark.
● All starts and finishes shall be clearly marked with the start of competition events, and will include Middle School and High School events.
● Approach lengths in the pole vault and long jump runways will be marked with 2” x 5” tic marks made on the edge of the runway at 10’ increments starting from the take off board and plant box. Additional marks at 6’, 7’, 8’, 9’, 10’, 11’, and 12’ from the pole vault plant box will also be made for identification of take off location. All lengths will be identified with a minimum of three inch (3”) letters
● All symbols shall have the proper color code for the event.
