About this file

This document contains the mandatory requirements for a new, refurbished, or factory certified CNC machine tool to be installed in Building 363. The key requirements include:

The machine must have a Siemens Sinumerik One control, a table size of at least 44.9" x 19.7" that can handle up to 2,024 lbs, a footprint no larger than 144" x 112" with a chip conveyor and coolant tank, a spindle with a minimum speed of 12,000 RPM and a continuous 20.1 HP motor, coolant through spindle capability, a minimum 30-station tool magazine, linear roller bearing slides, and heavy machine tool construction for rigidity and vibration absorption.

This document is related to a federal contract opportunity with Solicitation Number 5-B141-Q-00081-00 from the Department of Energy Office of Science to furnish a CNC mill with a Siemens controller. The solicitation requires a quotation, published price list, country of origin, lead time, and any available discounts or GSA contract pricing.

Mandatory Requirement for CNC Machine Tool

1. Machine must be new, refurbished or factory certified with at least a 1-year standard warranty - parts and labor.

2. Control: Siemens Sinumerik One

3. Table size: No less than 44.9” x 19.7”. Can handle up to 2,024 lbs.

4. Footprint: No more than 144" x 112" with chip conveyor and coolant tank.

5. Spindle:

· RPM: No less than 12,000

· Spindle Speed Range: Broad range from 10 to 12,000 RPM.

· Operation at 12,000 RPM with minimal heat generation, supported by four P4 class angular contact bearings for superior rigidity.

· Spindle taper – 40

6. Spindle Motor: Continuous 20.1 HP at 480V.

7. Coolant:

· CTS (Coolant Through Spindle) - High-pressure delivery to dissipate heat and chips (improves cutting performance, accuracy, and tool longevity).

· PSI delivery – minimum of 8.7gpm at 42 psi and 319 psi through the spindle.

8. Tool changer:

· Minimum of 30 Station Tool Magazine: Accommodates tools up to 11.8" in length with bi-directional changes.

· Dual Arm Automatic Tool Changer: Enables quick tool changes by pre-staging the next tool.

· Minimum 2.5-second tool-to-tool change.

9. Linear Roller Bearing Slides: Provides enhanced stiffness and precision on all axes, ideal for high-performance applications.

10. Linear Roller Bearing Slides: Provides enhanced stiffness and precision on all axes, ideal for high-performance applications.

11. Pretensioned Ball screws: Compensates for thermal expansion and maintains accuracy during machine operation.

12. Heavy Machine Tool Construction: Meehanite® ribbed casting for heavy cuts, vibration absorption, and rigidity.

13. Chip Conveyor: Efficiently removes materials with a rear collection and side discharge system.
