3. Concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls, structural steel, exposed piping, doors, frames, railings, and other facility components shall be prepared according to the requirements of the specified coating system. Metal surfaces exhibiting corrosion shall be cleaned using hand tools, power tools, or abrasive methods as necessary to remove rust, scale, and other deteriorated materials. All exposed bare metal, concrete, masonry, or previously uncoated substrates shall be spot primed or fully primed as required by the manufacturer.
4. Exterior surfaces shall be pressure washed or otherwise cleaned to remove contaminants, chalking, and loose material prior to coating application. Special attention shall be given to maintenance bays, wash bays, vehicle storage areas, fueling facilities, and other high-traffic locations where accumulated dirt, oils, chemicals, and transit-related residues may affect coating adhesion.
5. No primer or finish coating shall be applied until all surface preparation activities have been completed, deficiencies corrected, and the prepared surface has been inspected and accepted by RTA. Surfaces not properly prepared shall be rejected and reworked at no additional cost to the Authority.
6. Surface preparation shall comply with applicable MPI, SSPC/AMPP, and manufacturer requirements for the substrate being coated.
7. Remove accumulated contaminants from lighting fixtures and skylight glazing surfaces to improve lighting effectiveness and facility appearance.
