Acronyms:
· ACARS: Aircraft communications addressing and reporting system (digital datalink system for transmission of short messages between aircraft and ground stations via airband radio or satellite)
· ATC: air traffic control
· DOD: Department of Defense
· EDCT: expected departure clearance times.
· FAA: Federal Aviation Administration
· FLIP: Flight Information Publications
· NOTAMs: notice to airmen (notice to alert pilots of potential hazards that affect flight)
· PIREP: pilot report (report of actual weather conditions as encountered by an aircraft in flight)
· SATCOM: global satellite communications
· TFR: temporary flight restriction (a NOTAM that defines a restricted area due to hazardous conditions, special event, or a general warning)
Dispatch Service:
· Utilize proven interfaces compatible with and providing consistent uninterrupted connection to to provide dispatch services and allow access to ForeFlight Military Flight Bag for required aircraft navigation (DOD FLIP AND commercial products).
· Ability to obtain approval from Naval Flight Information Group (NAVFIG) when operating at airfields with non-DOD procedures.
· Review all applicable information (weather, NOTAMS, TFRs, DOD FLIPS, FAA publications, Jeppesen publications, etc.) for the scheduled flight and provide the best routing to avoid delays.
Proactive Flight Following Service:
· Provide the aircrew flying the aircraft shortly after departure and prior to reaching oceanic airspace about potential impacts to the flights
· Examples include:
· Convective weather avoidance
· Turbulence
· PIREPS
· Destination and alternate weather. If weather is below minimums, provide alternative airfields that meet weather requirements.
· Airfield closures
· ATC Flow control/EDCT/ Airspace flow program
· Airway or Air Space Closures
· Monitor ACARS, SATCOM, and other systems of positive communication
· Volcanic ash advisories
· Braking action reports
· Advise aircrew of any changes impacting the flight
· Respond to aircrew requests and questions
· Diversion support, rerouting as warranted
· Provide reroute information/assistance
