2. Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount: The Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) has a brand-name requirement for one (1) BD Pyxis ES Medication Dispensing Refrigerator. The refrigerator will be utilized for routine storage and dispensing of medications in our newly renovated York VA Community Clinic (VACC) area while efficiently tracking medication usage throughout that entire facility, ensuring accurate counts and on time re-stocking of these medications. The estimated value of the proposed action is:
3. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used: Based on market research, only one brand can integrate with the current BD Pyxis server in place at the facility.
The BD Pyxis ES Medication Dispensing Refrigerator is an integrated temperature management and refrigeration solution designed to support medication safety by properly securing and storing refrigerated medications. This refrigerator is the only single-line item access medical grade refrigerator on the market, featuring temperature management and secure locking bins accessed only via BD Pyxis MedStation ES system. The BD Pyxis platform offers enterprise-wide medication management through integration with Health and Information Technology systems.
This refrigerator is critical to operational functionality as it provides access to urgent, emergent, and operational requirements throughout the entire facility. Not only does this fridge securely store refrigerator medication, but it also tracks medication usage throughout the entire facility, allowing for accurate counts and restocking timelines.
This will secondarily improve diversion responsibilities through an integrated algorithmic user assessment. Improved access to medications and patient-medication data supports clinical safety and efficiency while reducing the risk of potential errors.
