About this file

This is a military standard technical drawing for a kingpin fifth wheel assembly, 3-1/2 inch, designated MS 53037 Revision E. The drawing is issued by the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) and provides detailed engineering specifications and dimensional requirements for procurement and manufacturing purposes.

The kingpin fifth wheel specification requires materials of steel alloy suitable for forging per MIL-S-46172, grades 8620, 8720, or 4620, with case hardening applied to indicated areas only between 0.065 to 0.090 depth, and Rockwell hardness C52-60. The assembly features a 12.00-inch diameter main body with four equally spaced holes at 0.12-inch diameter, a 2 7/8-inch dimension marked as FED. SUP CLASS 2510, and 5.00-inch diameter specifications. All machined surfaces require a specific finish, dimensional tolerances are held to two decimal places (±0.03) with three decimal place tolerances of ±0.015 and ±0.20 on angles, and all radii are 0.12 inch unless otherwise specified. Marking shall consist of part numbers and manufacturer identification per MIL-STD-130. The drawing notes that recycled materials meeting applicable specifications may be used without compromising intended use, and references an associated fifth wheel specification MS 53034-1. The standard takes precedence over procurement documents for design feature purposes and is subject to international standardization considerations under NATO standards.
