About this file

This document is an Amendment to a Request for Information (RFI) for the Clinical Alpha Radionuclide Producer (CARP) Hot Cells project at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The RFI seeks capabilities statements, Unique Entity Identifiers, and rough order of magnitude cost estimates from interested companies for the design, fabrication, and installation of a series of six modular hot cells. The hot cells will be used for various stages of actinium isotope processing, including target entry, disassembly/dissolution, and waste processing. The project will follow NQA-1 quality requirements and seismic design criteria. Brookhaven Science Associates, the operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory under a Prime Contract with the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, is issuing this RFI for information and planning purposes, not as a commitment to award a contract. Responses are due by October 7, 2024.

Amendment No. 1 Request for Information (RFI) No. JF449766SS

GENERAL: This Amendment is issued to provide the following clarification:

Question 1: Are there any conceptual design drawings that can be shared at this time?

At what design completion level would this work scope be picking up the project?

Answer: No drawings can be shared at this time; the project is still in the conceptual development stage. This scope would be executed in the preliminary design phase of the project.

Question 2: Is there a list of major equipment required for each hot cell or room area?

Examples: telemanipulator type and quantity, environmental/hvac requirements, utilities, internal cranes, external cranes, internal equipment, other?

Answer: Plan is to have two manipulators per hot cell. Make-up air into the preparation rooms will be provided by installing HEPA units on top of the preparation rooms and installing ductwork through the preparation room roof panels. Fan powered HEPA units shall be installed to provide additional filtration at each hot cell. A bridge crane will be installed in the facility.

Question 3: Is the Project design, fabrication, and installation to be completed under an

NQA-1 quality program?

Answer: Correct, this project will follow NQA-1 requirements.

Question 4: Are there seismic qualification requirements?

Answer: Seismic requirements will follow DOE O 420.1 for SSCs. CARP hot cells expected to be SDC-2.

Question 5: Are there automated components requiring PLC/HMIs?

Answer: No.

Question 6: Can you confirm that the scope of work for a ROM to be provided is turn-key including: Design, Fabrication, and Installation?

Answer: Correct, intention is for Design, Fabrication, and Installation.

Question 7: [Are] there are some additional files that we can request that clarify the size and scope of the work?

Answer: BSA does not intend to provide additional documentation with this RFI.
