About this file
This is a Sole Source Justification document for a firm-fixed-price purchase order issued by the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA), located in McClellan, California. The contracting officer, Ryan C. Tung, is awarding a $25,000 purchase order to Auer Precision Co., Inc. using simplified acquisition procedures under FAR 13.106-1(b) for a single-source acquisition.
The requirement is for custom sheet-metal magazines and boats used in wafer-production operations. These items must securely accommodate specific package sizes and be compatible with the Government's existing K&S RAPID Pro Ball Bonder equipment. The justification cites K&S's recommendation of Auer as the supplier based on performance criteria. Market research identified two alternative vendors—Van Dyke and Microform Precision—as technically capable; however, both were eliminated from consideration because they refused to sign the mandatory FAR 889 representation requirements. The document notes that Auer sells these custom items directly without using authorized distributors or resellers, making it the only reasonably available source. The contracting officer determined the anticipated cost to be fair and reasonable based on comparison to independent government estimate and commercial pricing analysis. The document was signed on September 3, 2026. Auer Precision Co., Inc. is located at 1050 West Birchwood Avenue, Mesa, Arizona 85210.

DMEA #26-31
Defense Microelectronics Activity
4234 54th Street, McClellan, CA 95652
SOW #26-6F0
Sole Source Justification
1. Agency and Contracting Activity:
Office of Secretary of War, Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA).
2. Nature/Description of Action:
This action will award a firm-fixed-price purchase order to Auer Precision Co., Inc. using simplified acquisition procedures. The estimated value is $25,000. This is a single-source acquisition pursuant to FAR 13.106-1(b).
3. Description of Supplies/Services:
The requirement is for custom sheet-metal magazines and boats used in wafer-production operations. The items must securely accommodate the package sizes identified in the technical requirements and be compatible with the Government’s existing K&S RAPID Pro Ball Bonder.
The estimated total value is $25,000.
4. Authority Cited:
FAR 13.106-1(b), Soliciting from a single source.
5. Reason for Authority Cited:
Auer Precision Co., Inc. is the only source reasonably available that the Government identified through market research that can provide the required custom magazines and boats and meet all applicable solicitation requirements. The required items must meet the technical specifications and compatibility requirements for use with the Government’s existing K&S RAPID Pro Ball
Bonder.
K&S identified Auer as the recommended supplier based on performance basis. The Government evaluated alternative sources as described in Section 8. Although Van Dyke and Microform
Precision indicated potential fabrication capability, neither could meet the mandatory FAR 889 representation requirements applicable to this solicitation. Consequently, neither vendor could be considered for award.
Auer sells these custom items directly and does not use authorized distributors or resellers. Based on the market research and technical information in the contract file, Auer is the only source reasonably available for this acquisition.
6. Efforts to Obtain Competition:
Market research was conducted to promote competition to the maximum extent practicable.
Based on the results described in Section 8, the contracting officer determined that only one source is reasonably available. The contract file will contain the supporting market-research documentation, technical rationale, and price-reasonableness determination.
7. Fair and Reasonable Cost Determination:
DMEA #26-31
I hereby determine that the anticipated cost to the Government for this contract action will be fair and reasonable. This determination is based upon comparison to independent government estimate and commercial pricing analysis.

8. Market Research:
Market research was conducted to identify capable sources for these custom sheet metal products. The government reached out to alternative fabrication shops, including Van Dyke and
Microform Precision, to determine if they could manufacture the required items. While these vendors were technically capable, they were eliminated from consideration because they refused to sign the mandatory FAR 889 representation. Further research confirmed that Auer Precision does not utilize authorized third-party distributors or resellers for these custom items, necessitating a direct award.
9. Other Facts:
None.
10. Listing of Sources:
Auer Precision Co., Inc.

Mesa, AZ 85210
Website: https://auerprecision.com/
11. Actions to Increase Competition:
Market research will continue to be conducted for future requirements to identify if any other vendors, who are fully compliant with federal contracting regulations (including FAR 889), possess the capability to manufacture and supply these custom sheet metal products.
12. Contracting Officer Certification: I certify that this justification is accurate and complete to the best of the contracting officer’s knowledge and belief.
