About this file
This document outlines water quality testing requirements for inorganic chemical and physical characteristics. It includes two tables listing substances that must be tested according to corresponding Maximum Contaminant Levels established by the Washington Administrative Code. Table 1 lists inorganic chemical characteristics including substances such as arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, and nitrate that require testing against primary and secondary MCLs. Table 2 lists physical characteristics including turbidity, color, hardness, pH, and alkalinity that must be tested against primary and secondary MCLs as well.
The related federal contract opportunity is to conduct water quality testing for the proposed Nelson New Test Well located in Snohomish County, Washington. The solicitation was issued by the Department of Health and Human Services Indian Health Service. The contract would require testing for the inorganic chemical and physical characteristics listed in the tables according to the Maximum Contaminant Levels specified to ensure water quality meets regulatory requirements.

Text version
Chemicals required to be tested and corresponding Maximum Contaminant Limits (MCLs), modified from the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) Section 246-291-171. Note: A bacterial test is also required.

*Although there is not an established MCL for sodium, there is enough public health significance connected with sodium levels to require inclusion in inorganic chemical and physical monitoring.
**MCLG (Maximum Contaminant Level Goal), as set by the Washington State Department of Health Lead and Copper Rule.
