A. The cementitious liner must be specifically manufactured to be resistant to degradation by hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas in wastewater environments and to seal sources of infiltration and inflow.
B. A trowel-applied and/or spray-applied version of the liner may be used.
C. Structural Epoxy lining must be able to bond to saturated-surface-dry (SSD) concrete, with moisture and relative humidity tolerances up 85% and capable to fully cure underwater.
D. The cured material must withstand submergence in water without degradation.
E. The sealant material, after curing, must be flexible as opposed to brittle.
F. In place, the sealant formation should be able to withstand freeze/thaw and wet/dry cycles without adversely affecting the seal.
SECTION 02958 – SEWER MANHOLE REHABILITATION PAGE 3 OF 6

H. Acceptable manufacturers and materials: EpoxyTecTM Series 451 CPP
Sprayliner, Epoxytec CPP Trowel-Liner, or approved equal. The Project Engineer shall determine the required liner thickness for approved equal products.
2.03 PRE-SEALING AND SURFACE PREPARATION MATERIALS FOR
CEMENTITIOUS LINER

2. Acceptable manufacturers and materials: Strong-Seal® StrongPlug®, Ferguson ProSelectTM, or approved equal.
B. Repair Mortar
1. Material must be a quick-setting, non-shrinking, cementitious repair mortar for when concrete is deteriorated to a greater depth (1/2-inch [12.7 mm] or as recommended by the Manufacturer) to rehabilitate and restore concrete and provide a smooth substrate for application of the cementitious liner.

PART 3- EXECUTION
3.01 INTENT
A. It is the intent to provide for the elimination of extraneous water leakage into manholes that are otherwise structurally sound. No sealing will be attempted in manholes where the leakage is not confinable such as in brick manholes or where the structural integrity of the manhole has been lost. All manhole sealing shall be done during high groundwater conditions, unless the points of leakage have been previously identified.
B. Covers shall be placed over the invert of the manhole to prevent extraneous material from entering the sewer system.
C. Do not prepare surfaces or apply sealing materials in rain, snow, fog, mist, or otherwise inclement weather as per material manufacturer’s instructions.
SECTION 02958 – SEWER MANHOLE REHABILITATION PAGE 5 OF 6
3.02 MANHOLE INSPECTION
A. Manholes shall be visually inspected for inflow and infiltration before work begins. All inspection shall be performed from within the manhole. Contractor shall supply a continuous supply of fresh air to the manhole while conducting work. Contractor shall insure that no one enters any manhole without first monitoring the extent of hazardous gas within the manhole or otherwise providing a safe atmosphere to the manhole interior. Contractor shall implement the use of safety equipment required to meet all local, state, and federal requirements for confined space entry.
3.03 EQUIPMENT
A. The basic equipment shall consist of chemical containers and all necessary equipment and application tools required for sealing the manholes per manufacturer’s instructions. Contractor shall implement the use of safety equipment required to meet all local, state, and federal requirements for confined space entry.
3.04 MANHOLE SEALING PROCEDURES
A. Manhole interior surfaces shall be fully cleaned of all dirt, rust, roots, rocks, and other debris.
B. After surface cleaning, leaks, cracks, holes, separated pipe collar joints, or other points of water ingress shall be identified for pre-lining repair.
C. At each of the defects listed above in 3.04B, apply hydraulic cement, repair mortar, epoxy mortar, and/or chemical grout based on the nature of the defect to the required thickness and let cure according to manufacturer’s specifications.
D. Care shall be taken during chemical grout injection operation to ensure that excessive pressures do not develop and cause damage to the manhole structure.
E. Apply liner to the entire interior wall surface of the manhole by either trowel or spray applicator, to a thickness of 250 mils (1/4 inch). The Project Engineer shall specify the liner thickness if products other than those listed in section
2.02 H above are approved for use. Let liner cure according to manufacturer’s specifications.
F. When finished, liner shall form a monolithic structure from the manhole frame to the bench.
SECTION 02958 – SEWER MANHOLE REHABILITATION PAGE 6 OF 6
3.05 FINAL ACCEPTANCE
A. After the manhole repair operations have been completed and newly applied materials have finished curing, the manhole shall be visually inspected for the elimination of infiltration, cracks, frame offsets, or loose material by the Contractor in the presence of the Project Engineer. The work shall be found satisfactory to the Project Engineer. A written report detailing repaired defects shall be submitted to the Project Engineer and the Tribe.
B. The 1-year warranty shall start on the date substantial completion for the project as a whole has been reached and concurred to by the Project Engineer and Contracting Officer.
C. The Tribe shall provide to the Contractor photo documentation of any leaks or mineralization/discoloration due to leaks occurring in rehabilitated manholes within one year, and Contractor shall provide additional repairs. The additional repairs shall have a warranty of 1-year from their date of completion.
