General Notes

All specifications refer to the FP-14 Standard Specifications of Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects. The Forest Service Supplemental Specifications (FSSS) will define additional requirements to the FP-14 and are included as part of the contract agreement.

Mobilization This work consists of moving personnel, equipment, material, and incidentals to the project and performing work necessary before beginning work at the project site. This work also includes obtaining permits, insurance, and bonds.

Contractor Sampling and Testing This work consists of obtaining samples for testing. This work includes sampling, testing, and reporting the required test results. Refer to Section 314 - Stockpiled Aggregates for additional sampling and testing requirements.

Soil Erosion and Sediment Control This work consists of furnishing, constructing, and maintaining soil erosion and sediment control devices to eliminate or minimize pollutants into existing drainage from the project. Contractor shall restore excavated slopes to surrounding conditions and establish positive drainage in the general pit area at the end of operations. This item is considered incidental to other pay items and shall not be paid for as a separate pay item.

Stockpiled Aggregates This work consists of furnishing and placing material in a stockpile for future use by the Government. Aggregate grading is designated according to the applicable tables of Section 703 - Aggregate.

Crushed aggregates shall be weighed on a state certified belt scale. Certification shall be furnished to the Contracting Officer (CO) or Contracting Officers Representative (COR) and approved before crushing operations begin. All testing and measurements are incidental to Pay Item 314.

A written test schedule shall be submitted to the COR and approved in writing before crushing operations begin. After a representative quantity of aggregate has been produced and thereafter at 1000-ton intervals, an AASHTO T-27 sieve analysis and T-90 plasticity index shall be performed under the supervision of a Colorado State Licensed engineer. Test samples shall be taken from the belt or stockpile. Test result documents shall be supplied to the COR. If any test fails, aggregate being produced shall be placed in a separate stockpile, until additional tests can be performed, and results show that target values are met.

Crushed aggregate shall meet the gradation target values specified in Table 703-3. Gradation target values shall be designated as Gradation Designation F (1.5 inch minus).
