SUBJECT: Item Description M25-021 Fatigue Specimen Polisher
Reference: AIF, Dated 27 Jan. 2025
1. The 76th MXSS is requesting utilization of Emerging Technology funds for the purchase of a Fatigue Specimen Polisher.
2. The requested equipment item descriptions/specifications are outlined below.
Item shall be capable of providing final, low-stress polishing of fatigue samples finer than
0.8 Ra per drawing specifications for material testing
Item shall be capable of providing polishing in accordance with ASTM E466 and ASTM E606 fatigue testing standards Item shall provide longitudinal polishing of samples (not in rotation) Item shall provide surface finish automation Item shall provide repeatability of finish on samples Item shall eliminate variability in sample preparation Item shall provide polish for specimens of assorted geometry, including round and flat, in various diameters and lengths Item shall provide automatic polishing with different grades of sandpaper Item shall provide automatic change of sandpaper and cleaning between polishing steps Item shall provide polishing in the longitudinal direction Item shall be able to provide adjustable contact force Item shall be able to provide adjustable longitudinal movement speed Item shall include a digital user interface between machine and operator to aid in automation
