About this file
This is a Memorandum for Record documenting equipment specifications for a federal purchase request by the 76 MXSG (Maintenance Squadron) at Tinker Air Force Base.
The 76 MXSG is requesting authorization to purchase one (1) Niton XL5 Plus or equivalent handheld XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) Analyzer for alloy analysis. The instrument must meet specific technical requirements including: analysis capability of elements from Magnesium (Mg, atomic number 12) through Uranium (U, atomic number 92)—80 different elements total; enhanced performance for light element analysis (Mg, Al, Si, P, and S) without requiring helium purge or vacuum systems; analysis time of approximately 1-2 seconds for most applications; and an X-ray tube with minimum specifications of 50kV, 200 µA with a rhodium (Rh) anode. The equipment must comply with National Electrical Code (NEC) safety standards and incorporate latest manufacturer design features. Additionally, the analyzer must have computer connectivity capability for downloading scans and results, and must include computer software for managing and analyzing scan data and results. The memorandum was issued on 12 March 2026 by Headquarters Air Force Sustainment Center (AFMC) at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.
