About this file
This document is a geotechnical exploration report prepared by Ardaman & Associates, Inc. for the Canaveral Port Authority, focusing on soil boring logs for the Proposed Cruise Terminal No. 5 located on the North Side of the West Turning Basin in Port Canaveral, Florida. The report details a subsurface exploration program conducted in 1989 and 1990, which included Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings and auger borings in the proposed project area. The exploration was performed to assess soil conditions for proposed marine infrastructure, with borings ranging from 98 to 111 feet in total depth. Boring locations were strategically placed along the northern side of the West Turning Basin, south of Highway 401, to evaluate geotechnical characteristics for potential pier and bulkhead construction.
The soil boring logs reveal a complex geological profile predominantly consisting of various layers of fine sand, ranging from brown to gray in color, with significant shell fragments and occasional clay and silt inclusions. The soil classifications using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) include SP (poorly graded sand), SM (silty sand), SC (clayey sand), and CH (high plasticity clay). Laboratory testing was conducted to determine natural moisture content, liquid limit, plasticity index, and other engineering properties. The geological investigation also included groundwater level measurements and detailed stratification descriptions. The report emphasizes that these boring logs are for contractor information only, with no guarantee implied about the exact material that will be encountered during actual construction, highlighting the exploratory nature of the geotechnical investigation.

APPENDIX B – SOIL BORING LOGS
1. Source for soil borings: Ardaman & Associates, Inc., Orlando, Florida. These boring logs are for Contractor information only and do not form a part of the Contract Documents. There is no guarantee implied or expressed that the material shown is the material that will be encountered.
2. Locations of borings are shown herein.
3. Depths are in feet and tenths of feet and are reference to existing ground or pier deck surface as indicated on the boring logs.
4. Blows/0.5 ft. refers to the number of hammer blows required to advance a 2-foot sample (2” I.D. X 2-1/2” O.D.) six inches.
5. (SC), (CH) and (SP) refer to the Unified Soils Classification System (USCS).
Materials shown on the core logs have been classified on the basis of field visual examination. Laboratory classifications are based on laboratory testing and take precedence over visual field classification.
6. No core samples are available for inspection.
7. Original Ardaman field logs may be available for inspection at the Orlando office of Ardaman & Associates, Inc.
