About this file
This document is a soil boring log report prepared by Ardaman & Associates, Inc. for the Canaveral Port Authority, focusing on geotechnical exploration for the Proposed Cruise Terminal No. 5 project located on the North Side of the West Turning Basin in Port Canaveral, Florida. The report details subsurface exploration conducted in 1989 and 1990, including Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings and auger borings in the proposed terminal area. The borings were performed to investigate soil conditions for the planned marine improvements, with depths ranging from 98 to 111 feet and located along the northern side of the West Turning Basin.
The soil boring logs reveal predominantly gray to brown fine sand with various characteristics, including silty sand, clayey sand, and shell fragments. The soil classifications using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) include SP (poorly graded sand), SM (silty sand), SC (clayey sand), and CH (high plasticity clay). The borings were conducted to support the design and construction of the cruise terminal, with a planned dredge depth of -35 feet Mean Low Water (MLW) to accommodate cruise ships. The exploration was part of a broader geotechnical investigation to understand the subsurface conditions, assess engineering properties of the soils, and provide critical information for the terminal's structural design and foundation planning.
