NAPHSIS is the only association that maintains nationwide relationships with all state vital records offices.
Record offices within each state maintain electronic birth records for those individuals born within that state.
NAPHSIS implemented and manages the Electronic Verification of Vital Events system on behalf of the states which used by a number of federal agencies for the purpose of verifying birth certificates for anti-fraud and identity assurance activities. The NAPHSIS system allows the Government to be more efficient by using only one system versus connecting to multiple state systems. There is a financial burden and valuable time involved with having multiple systems and negotiating each state agreements. NAPHSIS allows for efficiency to include training staff and maintaining Authorization to Proceed (ATO) if needed by the state.
Currently this web base system is approved to be used by TSA system owner.
