Title: INMATE BARBER SERVICES
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Summary
The Greenville County Detention Center is looking to enter into a contract for Barber Services with a barber licensed through South Carolina License, Labor and Regulation (SCLLR) or an equivalent agency from another state. The Detention Center prefers that the vendor have a minimum of 2 years of experience providing barber services in a licensed barber/beauty shop. The vendor must be willing to work in a correctional environment and perform at least 20 inmate barber services per week. No limitation will be placed on the maximum amount of services that may be provided at this time. The
Detention Center will require each vendor to submit at least 3 references from vendor's customers.
References must be inclusive of names and contact information for each customer.
1.2. Background
The Detention Center has traditionally employed a barber to provide standard haircuts and beard trims for inmates housed at the Detention Center. Inmates are informed that these haircuts are basic and that they should not expect stylish services from the barber. Inmates submit daily requests for barber services and the Accounting Specialists create a list of those inmates who are eligible for barber services.
The list is compiled by 12pm on Mondays and made available for the barber for service Monday through
Sunday. The Detention Center has previously determined that a rate of $10 per haircut and $8 per beard trim be implemented for these services. The Detention Center has previously provided the items necessary for barber services, at the request of the barber. In cases where the barber provides their own equipment, future purchases can be made to replace worn or broken equipment.
