Walk-In Freezer Project USP Lewisburg

1. If bid is based on “as built” drawing provided, these drawings show insulated concrete floor slabs with vapor breaks were installed for the walk-in cooler/freezers during the original construction. However, the existing walk-ins were provided and installed with insulated floors. Our concern is; why were the existing walk-ins installed with insulated floors if the insulated concrete floor slab with vapor breaks were in place? Is the insulated floor slab in place or was there a job change on the original construction and not noted on the “as builts”?

Therefore, if there is an insulated floor slab with vapor breaks under the existing walk-in box, are we to extend the floor insulation from the existing to accommodate the new larger depth size walk-in? Or remove all flooring and replace all for new walk-in footprint? Our thinking is the insulated floors with vapor breaks were not installed as shown on the as built drawings. The existing walk in was installed in 1991 and was/is supplied with insulated floors.

ANSWER: Remove all flooring and replace for new walk-in footprint.

2. By extending the larger front dimension for the new walk-in, we will eliminate the existing floor drains in front of the existing walk-in. Do new floor drains need to be supplied and installed in new front relocated area?

ANSWER: Yes.

3. The as built drawings provided do not show any underground electrical conduits. Can additional as built drawings be provided showing these? If not, can any underground conditions for conduits found be considered an unforeseen condition and addressed on an as needed basis as previously answered in RFI #2, bullet #12?

ANSWER: Yes.

4. Can the location of the new walk in box be moved three (3) feet to the right of the existing location in order to allow the electrical panel box to remain on the left hand wall where it’s currently located (Code requires three (3) feet in front of the box).

ANSWER: Yes.

5. We need the name of the existing sprinkler company used at USP Lewisburg in order to obtain a price for the sprinkler in the new box.

ANSWER: It is the responsibility of the selected contractor to solicit a sprinkler company.
