About this file

This document is an Invitation for Bid (IFB) 92-25 detailing minimum insurance requirements for contractors working with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The document comprehensively outlines the specific insurance coverage mandates for contractors, including Commercial General Liability, Automobile Liability, Workers' Compensation, Umbrella Liability, and Pollution Liability Insurance. Each insurance type has detailed requirements regarding coverage limits, which range from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 per occurrence or aggregate, with specific stipulations about insurance company ratings, policy basis, and notification requirements.

The insurance requirements are structured to protect the MBTA by ensuring contractors maintain robust insurance coverage throughout the contract term. All insurance policies must be placed with Massachusetts Division of Insurance-licensed companies with a Best's rating of A- or better, must be primary and non-contributory to MBTA's existing insurance, and require 30-day advance written notice of any cancellation. Contractors must provide certificates of insurance with the MBTA named as an additional insured, covering various potential risks including bodily injury, property damage, automobile use, workers' compensation, and pollution-related incidents. The comprehensive nature of these requirements indicates a thorough risk management approach by the MBTA for its contracted work.
