CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
The Stryker ICV Crew Trainer is designed for Stryker unit training to sustain gunnery and crew proficiency in accordance with (IAW) Training Circular (TC) Number 3-20.31, Training and Qualification, Crew. The Stryker Crew Trainer enables the gunner and driver to perform critical skills required in combat. To accomplish these required skills, the Stryker Crew Trainer provides a Crew Training Program (CTP). The Crew Training Program provides training in the principles of gunnery and crew coordination in the Stryker vehicle and is designed to support the following specific training programs:
a. Special Purpose – Introduces the Gunner to boresighting and zeroing procedures and tracking techniques.
b. Gunnery Training – Trains the Gunner in gunnery skills to prepare them for qualification by using practice and qualification training exercises.
c. Crew coordination training (only with Driver Station) – Trains the Gunner in coordination and communication skills with the Stryker driver crewmember.
Crews increase or sustain their combat proficiency by successfully completing exercises that require the performance of gunnery and coordination tasks under conditions similar to those encountered in combat. The Stryker Gunner, Driver, and Instructor, also called the users or operators, are critical elements in the Stryker ICV crew training system. The instructor operates the trainer and trains in gunnery and tactical skills. The users accomplish this task by thoroughly understanding the trainer and Stryker weapons systems.
1.1 Purpose
The Stryker ICV Crew Trainer comprises of an Instructor Operator Station, driver station and Stryker Remote Weapon System (RWS) Table Top Trainer (TTT).
The Stryker RWS TTT is a table top simulation system that replicates many variants of the Stryker RWS Fire Control Unit (FCU) display, functions in a synthetic environment, and is used to train and sustain the Vehicle Commander in critical gunnery skills required for direct fire engagements.
NOTE
The Stryker RWS TTT can operate in stand-alone mode utilizing the same instructional training system as the Crew Trainer without an Instructor.
The Driver Station (DS) is an add-on accessory that enables crew coordination training between the Stryker driver crewmember and the gunner. The DS connects to and utilizes the software contained in the Stryker RWS TTT Gunnery Trainer, synchronizing the visual and target databases with the RWS gunnery displays. It includes essential driving controls and driver vision blocks, driver seat with seat shaker, and aural cueing system. The compartment is mounted on lockable casters for easy positioning within the training area, and has forklift lift points for long distance transport.
The Instructor Operator Station (IOS) controls training programs and provides after action review (AAR) capabilities for the Stryker Driver Station (DS) and the Remote Weapons System (RWS) trainers. From the IOS, instructors can print scoresheets, induce crew cuts, and provide feedback in real time.
