About this file

This is a technical specification document for an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) system procurement. The required equipment must include an ICP-MS unit with chiller, installation and startup services, remote monitoring software with training, computer and printer, vacuum pump system, auto handler, and a high matrix introduction device. The system must achieve laboratory MDLs of 0.5 ppb, include surge protection, and come with a minimum one-year service protection plan with annual extension options. The equipment must be capable of running EPA methods 200.8 and 6020, and must integrate with the existing LIMS database for automatic results import.

The specification describes the technical operation of ICP-MS, which uses inductively heated plasma containing ions and electrons to create electrical conductivity. The system extracts ions through cones and lenses into a mass spectrometer, where they are separated by mass-to-charge ratio for detection and concentration measurement. The equipment must be capable of handling high matrix samples with minimal interference.

Text version

ICP_MS Specs The ICP-MS uses Inductively Coupled Plasma which is plasma that is energized by inductively heating the gas with an electromagnetic coil and contains a sufficient concentration of ions and electron to make the gas electrically conductive. It also uses Mass spectrometry. After coupling, the ions from the plasma are extracted through a series of cones and lenses into a mass spectrometer in which the ions are separated on their basis of their mass-to-charge ratio and a detector receives and ion signal proportional to the concentration.
