Minimum Requirements Document Five (5) Flight Simulators for the Aerospace Medicine Education and Training (FEE) division Document Date: 13 July 2026

Background & Scope: Currently FEE has one (1) flight simulator for all students to use for Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) courses and Residency in Aerospace Medicine (RAM) courses. While this device was updated in 2024, having a single unit creates a significant bottleneck for training. FEE is looking to expand this capability to meet current and future student throughput requirements (up to 300 students per calendar year).

The original AMP Aeromedical Aviation Laboratory (AAL) was created by the United States Air Force (USAF) Surgeon Generals (SG) office in 2012 in response to complaints from the line units that flight surgeons were liabilities on the flight line. These justifications and requirements have not and will not change.

Requirements/Salient Characteristics:

1. Due to space limitations, the flight simulators shall not exceed the following measurements: (W/H/D) 60” X 66” X 65”. There are no weight restrictions.

2. Devices shall be FAA approved for basic aviator training and be able to be used to maintain instrument currency by meeting the requirements of FAR§61.57(c)(1).

3. Simulators shall have a G1000 cockpit instrumentation panel and aviation style seat.

4. Simulators shall support Cessna 172 and 172RG, as well as 182 and 182RG.

5. Simulators shall include an instructor work station connection capability for scenario interaction.

6. System shall have a minimum of three (3) viewing monitors, a table, platform, rudder pedals, and ‘landing gear’ option.

7. Simulators shall have a 1-year manufacturer warranty.

8. Shall include assembly, installation, and initial setup/calibration.

9. Training guides (digital and/or paper) shall be provided and telephone support for any training needs shall be included for 1 year.
