About this file
This document is a technical specification for a braided Nomex sleeve with braided Kevlar core and polyurethane finish. The specification details a specialized cord product for DLA Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard with NSN 4020-LL-L270360 and CSR #857516125-SYN, originally established in August 2012.
The core braid consists of PIA-C-87129-VI or equivalent Kevlar/Aramid cord with a minimum tensile strength of 750 lbs and 10/11 picks per inch. The sleeve braid requires 1600 denier Nomex yarn with specific configuration: 1 end per carrier, 16 bobbins per set, and 27-40-20-45 gears, producing 17-19 picks per inch of Nomex sleeve braid. The finished cord has a final diameter of .125" or 1/8" with a total weight of 4.4-4.7 lbs per 1000 feet. The sleeve braid weighs 2.35-2.40 lbs per 1000 feet and the core braid weighs 2.10-2.2 lbs per 1000 feet. A clear urethane finish is applied to the Nomex sleeve to facilitate field cutting. The product ships on 7.5" x 6" spools containing 1000 feet per spool.
